ItsDeductible Data Export: What to Do With Your Records Now
ItsDeductible is gone. Here is how to get your ItsDeductible data export from Intuit, what the CSV holds, and how to rebuild and keep records.
By DonationLedger Team · Updated · 10 min read
If you used ItsDeductible for years, you probably have a decade of donation history sitting somewhere in Intuit's system. This guide is for people who want that history back and want a plan for the years ahead. It covers the ItsDeductible data export, what the CSV files held, how to request your records now, and how to rebuild a year if you never exported at all.
Quick answer
- Intuit shut down ItsDeductible on October 21, 2025. Users got email notices in late August and early September 2025.
- Before the shutdown, you could export CSV files for items, cash, mileage, and stock gifts. Community posts described them as simple spreadsheets with nine columns.
- You can still request your records. Sign in to your Intuit Account, go to Data & privacy, and click Download. It can take up to 15 days.
- TurboTax does not import the ItsDeductible CSV. You enter donations by hand, or use a tracker that exports a TXF file for TurboTax Desktop.
- Going forward, keep a receipt folder plus one tracker. DonationLedger imports the ItsDeductible CSV so your history stays in one place.
What happened, and when
Intuit emailed ItsDeductible users in late summer 2025. The message said the service would end on October 21, 2025. The first community threads about the email appeared on August 26 and September 3, 2025, so most people had less than two months of notice.
Many users were upset about the timing. October 21 falls in the middle of the giving year. It is also a couple of weeks before TurboTax desktop software comes out, so the usual import path was gone before anyone could use it. Intuit's Office of the President told one user the decision "was not made lightly," but it gave no reason.
This was the second try at closing the service. Intuit announced a shutdown in 2022 and then reversed it after complaints. This time the site went dark. If you want a broader look at the tools that replaced it, see our guide to ItsDeductible alternatives.
How the ItsDeductible data export worked
Before October 21, ItsDeductible offered an Export option on the website. It produced CSV files, which open in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet program. You could export items, cash gifts, mileage, stock donations, or an overall summary. Each export covered the years still on the site, which for most people meant 2021 through 2025.
Users on the TurboTax community described the files as "simple CSV / Excel type files. 9 columns of data." One user pointed out a gap. The export listed your donations but did not include a separate list of your saved charities with their addresses. If you had 40 charities saved, you got their names on each donation line but not a clean address book.
For the item file, the useful fields are the ones you would expect: the donation date, the charity, the item description, the quantity, the condition you picked, and the value ItsDeductible assigned. Column names vary a little by export date, so open the file once and read the header row. That is enough to rebuild a year-end summary, and it is the data most trackers read when they import.
If you saved those CSV files, copy them somewhere safe right now. Put one copy on your PC and one on a USB drive or a cloud folder. They are the only version of that data in the original format.
How to get your ItsDeductible records now
The website is gone, but the data is not. Intuit's privacy page lets you request a copy of the personal data it holds. TurboTax community members confirmed in November 2025 that ItsDeductible records come along with it. Here is the process.
- Go to the Intuit Account sign-in page and sign in with the same login you used for ItsDeductible.
- Choose Data & privacy in the left menu.
- Under Data privacy, click Download. If it asks which products, include TurboTax.
- Watch your email. Intuit sends a confirmation, then a second email when the file is ready. Intuit says this "can take up to 15 days." Some users report about four days.
- Download the ZIP file and unzip it.
- Open the SharedData folder, then the ItsDeductible folder. Look for a spreadsheet named ItsDeductibleOnline.xlsx and a short text guide from Intuit.
- Open the spreadsheet and confirm your years are there. Then save a backup copy before you do anything else.
The spreadsheet holds items, cash, mileage, and stock across all your years. It is not the same layout as the old CSV export. If you plan to import it into a tracker, check that the tracker accepts the Intuit spreadsheet format, not just the old CSV. Intuit has not said how long this download option will stay available, so do not wait.
Where your old data may still be
Even if you never clicked Export, pieces of your history are likely in several places. Work through this list before you give up on a year.
| Place | What you will find | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Intuit Account data request | ItsDeductibleOnline.xlsx with all years | Data & privacy, then Download; wait up to 15 days |
| Your old CSV exports | Item, cash, mileage, stock files | Search your PC for "ItsDeductible" or files ending in .csv |
| TurboTax Online prior returns | PDF of each filed return, including charity worksheets and any Form 8283 | Your tax returns & documents; past seven years |
| TurboTax Desktop .tax files | Full return with worksheets | Documents > TurboTax folder on the PC you used |
| Charity email receipts | Date, charity, and often a description | Search your inbox for "donation," "receipt," or "thank you" |
| Bank and credit card statements | Cash gifts by date and amount | Online banking, usually 18 to 24 months back |
| Phone photos | Pictures of drop-off receipts and donated piles | Search by date or location in your photo app |
| Paper receipts | Goodwill and Salvation Army drop-off slips | The shoebox, the glove box, the kitchen drawer |
Old filed returns are the most complete source for past years. The charity worksheet in a TurboTax PDF shows each charity and the total you claimed. If you print with "government and TurboTax worksheets," you get the item detail too.
Can you import ItsDeductible into TurboTax?
No. TurboTax support said on X in January 2026: "TurboTax does not support importing ItsDeductible CSV files. Donation data must be entered manually in TurboTax." The old one-click import ran on the ItsDeductible service, and that service no longer exists.
TurboTax Online now has a Fair Market Value tool inside the charitable donations section. It helps you pick a value for common items as you type them in. It does not store donations all year, and it does not carry data forward from ItsDeductible.
Your prior returns are safe. Donations you entered in 2021 through 2024 are still inside those returns. You can download the PDFs from TurboTax Online for the past seven years. Desktop users keep the .tax files on their own PC.
For tax year 2025 and later, you have two paths. You can type each donation into TurboTax by hand from your tracker. Or you can use a tracker that exports a TXF file, which TurboTax Desktop can read. TurboTax Online does not accept TXF files.
How to rebuild a year if you did not export
Say you gave all through 2025 and never exported. First, submit the Intuit data request above. While you wait, rebuild the year from your own records. It takes an afternoon.
- Print or open your bank and card statements for the year. Highlight every gift to a charity. Those are your cash donations, with dates and amounts.
- Search your email for receipts. Most charities send one for online gifts. Search "donation," "gift," "receipt," and the names of your regular charities.
- Gather drop-off slips. Goodwill and Salvation Army hand out a slip with the date and location. Check your car, wallet, and kitchen drawer.
- Look at your phone photos around each drop-off date. Many people snap a picture of the bags or the slip. The photo date fills in a missing receipt date.
- Rebuild each item donation. Write down what you gave, how many, and the condition. Use the Goodwill valuation guide or a tracker's built-in value guide for the fair market value. Our guide on how to value donated items walks through this.
- Note any charitable driving. The rate is 14 cents per mile under IRS Publication 526.
- Enter everything into a tracker or spreadsheet, one line per donation.
Keep the IRS record rules in mind. Items over $250 need a written acknowledgment from the charity. If your non-cash total for the year passes $500, you file Form 8283. Single items or groups over $5,000 need a qualified appraisal. Clothing and household items must be in good used condition or better. See Form 8283 explained for details.
How to keep records going forward
The ItsDeductible shutdown taught a hard lesson. Records that live only on someone else's website can vanish. A simple system on your own PC will not.
Start with one folder per tax year. Name it something like "Donations 2026." Inside, keep four things: receipt photos, charity emails saved as PDF, drop-off slips scanned or photographed, and one tracker file. Back the folder up once a month to a USB drive or a cloud folder.
Then pick one tracker and use it every time you give. A spreadsheet works. We built a free donation tracker spreadsheet with the right columns. A desktop program works better if you want a value guide, receipt photos attached to each entry, and a year-end summary you can hand to a preparer.
The habit matters more than the tool. Enter the donation the same day you make it. Take the photo before the bags leave the car. Thirty shirts and ten pairs of pants are easy to list on Saturday and hard to remember in April.
The 2026 rules make good records more important, not less. Starting with tax year 2026, itemizers can only deduct charitable gifts above 0.5 percent of adjusted gross income. People who take the standard deduction can deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 for joint filers) in cash gifts only. Non-cash items still count only if you itemize.
Moving your ItsDeductible CSV into DonationLedger
If you saved the old CSV export, DonationLedger reads it directly. Open the program and go to File → Import → ItsDeductible CSV. Pick your item file. The import brings in the date, charity, item, quantity, condition, and value for each line. You then see your history in the same list as new donations.
Check the import once it finishes. Look at the first and last entries and one entry in the middle. Make sure the dates and totals match your old summary. If you have the Intuit spreadsheet (.xlsx) instead of a CSV, open it in Excel and save it as CSV first; the preview reads CSV files.
Where DonationLedger fits
DonationLedger is a Windows 10 and 11 desktop program for people who donate goods all year and itemize. It tracks items with a built-in fair-market-value guide, cash gifts, and charitable mileage. It attaches receipt photos, makes a year-end summary and a Form 8283 worksheet, and exports TXF for TurboTax Desktop and CSV for H&R Block or a preparer. It is a one-time $49 purchase with no subscription, and all data stays on your PC. See pricing for details. It is not for Mac or phone users, and it is not a tax filing program. Right now it is a free Early Access Preview that shows the core screens and lets you join the waitlist. Download the free preview.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still get my ItsDeductible data after the shutdown?
Yes, in most cases. Sign in to your Intuit Account, open Data & privacy, and request a download. Intuit says it can take up to 15 days, and your ItsDeductible records arrive in a SharedData folder inside a ZIP file.
What was in the ItsDeductible CSV export?
Before October 21, 2025, ItsDeductible let you export CSV files for items, cash, mileage, and stock. Users on the TurboTax community described them as simple spreadsheets with nine columns of data. The Intuit data request now sends an Excel file instead.
Can I import ItsDeductible into TurboTax?
No. TurboTax support has said it does not import ItsDeductible CSV files. You enter donations by hand in the Deductions & Credits section, or use a tracker that exports a TXF file for TurboTax Desktop.
What happens to my old donation data inside TurboTax?
Returns you already filed keep their charity worksheets and any Form 8283. TurboTax Online lets you download PDFs for the past seven years. Desktop returns live in your Documents > TurboTax folder as long as you keep the files.
I never exported anything. Is my data lost?
Not always. Try the Intuit data request first. If that fails, you can rebuild the year from bank and card statements, charity email receipts, drop-off photos, and old tax return PDFs.
Your next step is simple. Submit the Intuit data request today, then set up a folder for this year's receipts while you wait. This article is general information, not tax advice. Check IRS.gov or ask a tax professional about your situation.
